Our Designer
I’m Rani, the owner and designer of ella & sunday.
Just touching on ten years since I started this adventure, I’ve been fulfilling my dream of having a wardrobe of clothes that I could call my own.
I’d say that dream started at North Gobothery, a sheep farm in the central west of New South Wales where I grew up. From around 8 years old, and when I wasn’t at school, I would take Mum’s old Hunter Hillman up the dirt road and across the Newell Highway to my Aunt Daine’s house, where she lived with her husband Bob and brother Charlie. After calling Mum and Dad to tell them I’d arrived safe, I spent my days there, eventually learning to sew with my Aunt’s old sewing machine. Here, I made my very first pieces of clothing, as Daine had done since I could remember.
Leaving school, I studied Fashion Production in Custom Clothing at East Sydney Tech college.
I found my first job with a company called Riece Fashions in production and, after a brief hiatus in London, worked in sales at the Australian Fashion Group.
Then kids came: Charlie, Harry, Tom and Ella Daine. They were my life for the best part of 2000s. But by 2010, I rediscovered fashion. I loved being back in the industry and by 2015, took the leap to not only start my own business but head to India for the very first time, visiting a friend in the small town of Pushkar. I wanted to find natural fibres that could stand the rigours of my everyday life and be able to still dress them up on a night out with friends.
With that, my very first collection Italia was in production, with a combination of linen, cotton and silk lining the catalogue.
Ten years on, and Autumn 2025’s Brooloo Lane is on hangers in our showroom as well as my own wardrobe.
Thank you for allowing me to continue being a part of yours.
