BATIK

The first release from our Spring Summer 24-25 collection, Equinox, incorporates fabric prints in some of our signature styles using the ancient art of Batik.

Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax resist dyeing applied to the whole cloth. It is produced either by drawing a series of wax dots and lines with a spouted tool called canting, OR in this case, by printing with a copper stamp called a cap. The applied wax resists the dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating the process if multiple colours are desired.

The distinctive marble like lines through the design are created by the wax "cracking" and is how you can tell the Batik method has been used.
